A kaleidoscope of perception
Roman’s artistic practice unfolds at the intersection of optical perception, the architecture of consciousness and the aesthetics of technological glitches. His works are complex visual constructions grounded in illusion, glitch and visual astigmatism. Hodirev creates images that do more than meet the eye: they activate inner mechanisms of doubt and shifts in reality.
Rather than simply depicting the world, these works prompt viewers to question the stability of their own perception, turning acts of observation into acts of transformation. The series cheLOVEinik and Flame Mandala of a Tube TV, alongside projects within the Astigmatism Research Institute, reveal an ongoing exploration of the boundaries between the visible and invisible, and a search for “Sources of Visual Pleasure” in glitches, reflections, glare and emptiness. Hodirev shows that it is through distortion that the authentic breaks through: not obvious, but felt.
In his works, optical distortions become a metaphor for contemporary sensibility, in which reality is always ambiguous, layered and subject to interference. A glitch is more than a defect: it is an expressive language through which the artist reveals the nature of digital perception, discovering traces of human intuition and imperfection within a malfunction. Illusory space, fractal forms, distorted perspectives and unstable visual codes turn his works into distinctive tools of visual self-examination.
