Sleeping Samurai No. 01
The samurai went to war tired…
Saturday. A samurai slept alone, wrapped in a cloak. The other warriors were asleep too, scattered across the landscape. The samurai had simply fallen asleep while admiring the beauty, or perhaps after drinking sake.
But when Hideyoshi awoke, it turned out that things had happened differently. All the samurai had gathered, panting, beside his bed. A fire blazed in the middle of the meadow, with a pigeon roasting on a spit. It was surrounded by red and green blackberry leaves, symbolising the colour of the fire and the blood upon it, which burned above the samurai’s head.
Hideesi himself, sleeping nearby, was dreaming of a tsunami destroying his entire home.
“What is going on?” thought Hidetada once he was awake.
Suddenly he heard a sound like a passing train. It was Hideyoshi’s muffled groan. Hidenaga opened the door to his consciousness, and the samurai Hidetoshi tumbled through it, so shocked by the sight before him that he lost Hidenaga’s consciousness…
Running outside, Hiderada saw Sagawa already breaking the head apart and handing each of his men a piece of boiled pigeon.
Everyone was pleased.
After this incident, Hidetiyoshi came to be called a prince, and his samurai Hidetoshi the prince of darkness and commander.
